Post-Roman layers

This map includes timber castles (brown circles, in England and Wales) and battlefields (turquoise circles) from the early medieval, medieval, and post-medieval periods. Ultimately it will also include religious houses, as promised in the book, but I’m having to map those from scratch and it takes a while!

White roads are Margary’s network. Hover over a road or feature to identify the dataset, click on a road or feature for more information.

The layers can be turned on and off with the dialogue box in the top right, the legend is in the bottom right, and the data set can be accessed at the bottom left.
